The Foundation
The Foundation supports the needs of persons with Down syndrome and their families. Down syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality that creates some degree of mental retardation in persons with Down syndrome. The Foundation, through the proceeds from the Sydney and Riley Open Benefit Golf Tournament, has contributed to the creation and opening of the first Down Syndrome Clinic of Houston at Texas Children's Hospital in conjunction with Baylor College of Medicine. The need for the Clinic became apparent when the medical and mental needs of children with Down syndrome were not being sufficiently addressed by existing organizations. The Foundation, through its fundraising efforts, will continue to support the Down Syndrome Clinic of Houston and in addition other activities that benefit persons with Down syndrome, such as educational programs, down syndrome research and sponsorship of summer camps for children with special needs..
